does anyone know how to knit a mohawk hat?
Here the instructions:
Materials:
2 balls Lamb’s Pride Bulky Superwash #SW05 (Onyx), or color of choice, for hat
1 skein (125 yards) Lamb’s Pride Bulky (not Superwash) in Limeade, Royal Blue or color of choice for hair
circular knitting needle, at least 24″ (60cm) long, US size 9 (5.5mm), or size needed to attain gauge
short, flexible stitch holders
crochet hook
2 stitch markers
cardboard cut to 4″ wide by 8″ long
scissors
Yarn notes:
If you’re substituting yarn for the hat, bulky weight is recommended.
If you’re substituting yarn for the hair, choose a single-ply bulky: a plied yarn will develop split ends.

Hat will measure 16.75 (17.5, 18.25)”/42.5 (44.5, 46.5) cm from widow’s peak to base of neck when measured along centerline.
1. Now cut 150 pieces of hair from the Lamb’s Pride Bulky as follows: First cut a piece of cardboard about 3″-4″/ 7.5-10 cm wide, depending on the length of hair.
Designer’s note: I prefer to make the hair longer than needed, then give it a haircut for the neatest Mohawk effect.
2. Cut a notch in the corner of the cardboard and secure one end of the yarn here. Neatly wrap the yarn in a single layer around the cardboard until it is full. Make sure that the last bit ends on the same edge as the corner notch, or you’ll waste half of a piece. Now slide one edge of the open scissors inside the yarn, along one edge of the cardboard, and slowly cut all of the yarn pieces with a few strokes of the scissors.
4. To attach the hair, from the RS, begin with the centerline of the hat and place a line of hair about every 4 rows from center front to center back. Insert the crochet hook through a loop of the knitting and out again on the RS. Fold each piece of yarn in half and hook the yarn onto the hat as if you were applying fringe, one piece of yarn at a time. The more densely you place the yarn, the more dramatic the Mohawk effect. Be aware, though: Hair longer than 4″ may fall into the wearer’s eyes.
