In all honesty, the first time I was faced with instructions on how to knit it was just too much for me.
When I was young child, I was eager to knit something. I chose to knit children’s mittens. In the picture they looked so sweet and I was so sure that I could do it, but when I read the instructions to knit them I felt I could never learn to understand all the abbreviations and terms.
When you take up knitting, you will quickly learn that there are only two simple stitches: the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Once you mastered in these two stitches you will be capable to follow nearly all knitting instructions All stitches can be traced back to various permutations of the two basic stitches.
There are several ways to learn to knit if you never have before. You should be sure to follow all directions. Learning to knit can be complicated, so having someone you know who knits teach you may be the easiest way to learn. It’s an idea to make note of all of the abbreviations you are shown in order for you to make reference to them at a later date
If you are new to knitting, you can find instruction through books, online tutorials, formal classes, and knitting circles with more experienced knitters. They will be glad to interpret even the most tricky instructions for you.
In the city I live in there are a few of us who knit and we meet regularly at our local cafe. Laughter and coffee are plentiful, as well as knitting!
Also at our local knitting wool shop every week there is a knitting afternoon where knitters can exchange ideas and patterns, and sit and knit together. They are a blast and definitely worth checking out for knitting instructions and inspiration.
