Knitting Instructions Casting On

knitting instructions casting on
I am teaching myself to knit and am following all instructions, so why can’t I get the knit stitch right?

I am so frustrated. I have perfected casting on. The knit stitch only has one more step. I don’t get what I am doing wrong. When I have the new stitch on the right needle and slip the old one off the left needle, it does not look right. I don’t get the results I should see and I don’t really know how to describe it. It’s like there is a ton of extra yarn attached to the loop on the right needle. It’s almost like there is another loop that is looped with the loop on the right needle and it prevents that loop from sitting properly on the needle and forming the correct knit stitch. I have several books on how to knit and I can’t figure it out.

It’s difficult to diagnose without seeing what you’re doing. Take a look at the videos on this site. Seeing how someone else knits might be more helpful than pictures and text in a book.
