Need a new hobby, knitting or sewing?
Have a sewing machine I never learned how to use, but we are waiting for our new house, and theres not much room here. Seems like a great task though, could do quilting too if I learned how to use it.
And then theres knitting, but how hard is knitting? Did that dishcloth pattern a few years ago, but thats about it.
Any suggestions? Pros or cons?
Knitting. You can take it anywhere. You don’t have to worry about the cost of repairing the machine when it is broken. knitting tends to be much cheaper than sewing unless you only sew with clearance supplies.
It’s also not that difficult to do, I taught myself using online videos. http://www.theknittingsite.com/videos.html I found it easier to teach myself when using really chunky yarn and large needles – but make sure it is just plain twisted yarn – nothing fancy. The yarns like lionbrand’s homespun or anything else that’s not just plain yarn can be very difficult to learn on, as you can’t really see what you are doing.
A lot of people will tell you that the more well-known brands such as lionbrand and red heart don’t last long, or pill badly. I honestly don’t know the truth to that – I’ve not been knitting long enough to find out what happens to things after I’ve finished them. Here’s a guide to yarns that I’ve recently found. http://community.livejournal.com/knitting/9762327.html
Here’s another knitting site that I’ve found helpful. http://www.knittinghelp.com/
*edited to add: I’ve done crocheting and knitting. I find knitting turns out much nicer items, and while crocheting, it’s easy to wind up with more or less stitches than you started out with – resulting in an uneven item.
