how much to hand knit a jumper?
My wife has no idea how much to charge for hand-knitting a jumper. Can anyone help?
I think three times the cost of materials is fair for smaller items like scarves, hats, gloves, socks, etc. but for sweaters which are much more labor intensive and need to be knit to measure, I think it’s fair to charge by the hour as well.
Depending on the difficulty of the knitting (plain stockinette versus lace or aran or colorwork) you may want to come up with a price based on time involved. (She should at least be getting paid minimum wage!)
Consider a price based on time also if the yarns you’re using are on the cheaper-end. A Red Heart sweater may only cost $10 to knit if only materials are considered, but it would surely take more than two hours to hand knit…
