Easy Afghan Knitting Patterns

easy afghan knitting patterns
clark and coats?

i have a pattern that in one of my knitting books for afghans. it is read with a chart. it is said to be an easy pattern. this is the part i get confused with, i am not a good chart reader. ( after i knit six rows, it says beg chartwork repeat between red line 8 times) i have to cast on 97 stitches.(work eight rows rep) 20 times, rep rows 1-7 then knit 7 rows.) i don’t understand what they mean. the chart has 8 rows.with stitch keys.but about half way it is blocked off with a red square. i do not know what to do and when to start when i get to that part. please can anyone help?

Ok. What it means:
Cast on 97.
Knit 6 rows.
Start the chart, then, when you get to the red line, do the stitches until the next red line. Go back to the first red line. Do the stitches until the next red line. Go back to the first red line. Do the stitches until the next red line… keep doing that for eight times in total. Work to the end of the row. Do the same thing for the next row. (row 2 of the chart). Keep following this for the whole 8 rows of the chart. Then, start at the bottom of the chart again, and do the same 8 rows the same way. When you have done that, go back and start again. You will do the 8 rows for a total of 20 times.

So, what you will have is the first 6 rows, plus 8 X 20 rows, or a total of 166 rows. Then, you follow the chart again for only seven rows. Then after you have done those seven chart rows (total now 173) you will do seven knitted rows, plain, like the ones at the start. Total of 180 rows.

Hope this helps.
